Intermediate/Advanced Esalen® Massage:
Accessing the back body from the front taught by Nora Matten
This workshop is ideal for practitioners who would like to learn how to apply the principles of Esalen® massage while keeping the client in the supine position throughout the session. At times, we encounter clients who are unable to lie in a prone position (on the stomach), due to personal preference or illness, yet we still want to be able to touch and work with the whole body. During this weekend, we will learn the principles of Esalen® Massage, the long flowing strokes, passive movement, quality of touch, and contact, while focusing on learning how to access the back body with the client lying supine. We will explore how to use passive joint movement and the movement of limbs to access the back body from the front. We will also learn how to work with our hands underneath the body, allowing us to use our client’s body weight and gravity to achieve the proper depth. Working with these tools will allow us to do a complete massage in the supine position, a beautiful addition to our massage repertoire and a wonderful gift for people who are unable to lie comfortably in a prone position.
