What is Esalen® Massage?

The Esalen® Massage was developed in the 1960s at the Esalen® Institute in Big Sur, California, and has been evolving ever since. It is a holistic full-body massage that includes long strokes, three-dimensionality, and presence-based touch.

Esalen® Massage is designed to not only relieve physical tension but also to promote emotional and spiritual well-being. Through long, flowing strokes, a slow pace, and pauses, your body is invited to unwind and return to its natural state of balance. Deep structural work in the muscle tissue, gentle stretching movements, light rocking, and passive joint mobilizations are also essential parts of the massage technique. Esalen® massage supports a positive experience of your own body and activates your self-healing powers.
